A brainstorming session among the faculty members led to the exciting theme of the conference “Sustainable Business Models in the Emerging Global Economy”. 

The conference was inaugurated by a very distinguished person from the industry, Sri. A N Chandramouli, President, Bangalore Chamber of Commerce and Industry.  He gave a bird’s eye view on the conceptual aspects of sustainable business.  Sri Dinesh Puri , CEO, Meidved, was the key note speaker and he highlighted on the different approaches to designing the business models.  He focused on the pharma sector and the need for sustainability in the health care sector. Dr. K Mallikharjuna Babu, our Principal presided over the function.  He motivated the students to understand and deliberate on the challenges they face and thus suggest sustainable suggestions. 

The model of conducting the conference was changed so as to bring in an enhanced industry institution interaction.  In the light of this we had 3 plenary sessions with 9 different organizations discussing their sustainable models.

The I plenary session was chaired by Mr. Anil Gupta, Co-Founder & Vice Chairman, Cipsa Tec India Pvt., Ltd.  We had Mr. Vijay Kumar and Mr. Ramesha discussing the Optimal sustainable models of Bosch Ltd.  Mr. Marulasidda from Scannia discussed about sustainability in the transport sector.  He said ethanol buses were used in Nagpur thus bringing down the level of pollution in the city. Finally we had Mr. Rammkumarr seshu, CEO of Born to win spoke on enhancing employability quotient to have sustenance in the business.

The II Plenary session started with a presentation from Mr. Gerald Dias from McDonalds where he said cultural sensitivity helped them in sustaining business.  Mr. Ashwath Ramaiah from Unique Consultants highlighted the need for passion and innovation to build sustainable models.  He largely dealt on training and development.  Further we had Mr. Dinakar who spoke on corporate gifting company which developed itself into a sustainable business model.  The session was chaired by Mr. Kishore Jagirdhar

The III plenary session had three different sustainable models from Cloud nine, Larsen and Toubro and Inspirations Unlimited.  Mr. Siddharth connected Mckinsey’s 7S model to the health care sector.  Mr. Mohan from Inspirations Unlimited spoke on energizing and motivating young minds so as to provide sustainable business models. Mr. Hande and Mr. Ravi from L & T said that their company understood the need for sustainability way back in 1970s. They discussed on the construction industry and building sustainable models in this regard. Mr. Srihari Boregowda Chief Business analyst, Director chaired this plenary session. 

Coming to the paper presentations we received more than 90 papers.  We finalized on 73 papers for presentation.  Among them we had one paper each from Malaysia, Bangladesh and Oman. We received papers from Cuttack, UP, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Mysore and so on.   We had a blind review process with the help of Welingkar Institute.  It was tuff and a difficult task for them to select the best 8 papers for the presentation.  The best papers session was chaired by Dr. Anil Rao Paila, Director, Welingkar, Mr. Upendra Bhide, HR Manager BMSCE and Mr. Padmabha, Sunplus systems solutions.  The eight papers were further screened on stage to make it more comprehensive.  Other papers were segregated into specializations and presentations were conducted in different tracks.  Session chairs were chosen from both industry and academia.

To hone research skills among students we introduced a separate student track.  We had 11 student paper presentations and three student teams received the awards.  The session chairs opined that the students had innovative ideas and could be taken forward to make them entrpreneurs.

The valedictory session had an eminent Chief Guest Mr. Byju Pillai, President & CEO, Inflow Technologies Ltd.  He discussed the issue of sustainability in detail and added lot of value to the conference.  Dr. G N Sekhar, Vice Principal, BMSCE, presided over the function.  He spoke of the changes in the environment for the last decade and insisted that sustaining environment is a key to build business. 

The feedback of the participants was encouraging and motivating.  The entire conference was mentored and Guided by Dr.S Nagendra, Dean-MBA and Dr. A Satya Nandini, HOD-MBA. 




Date : 24th and 25th October 2013

The Department of Management Studies and Research Centre, BMS College of Engineering successfully conducted the International conference on 24th and 25th October 2013, for the second time.  The Conference was conducted to deliberate on the current topic “Innovation – The Key to Global Competitiveness”.   The event witnessed more than 70 paper presentations both from national and International delegates. 

The Conference was inaugurated by Prof. Waswa Balunywa, Principal, Makerere University Business School, Kampala, Uganda and the key note address was delivered by Dr. M S Moodithaya, Director. Global Initiatives, Nitte University, Bangalore.  They spoke on the importance of innovation for sustainability and its significance in handling global competition.  The closing ceremony of the conference witnessed another eminent person, Ms. Uma Reddy, Chairman, Innovation centre, FKCCI, Bangalore.  She highlighted the need for the students of the MBA programme to become job givers than job seekers.

The event also had prominent people like Prof. Rishikesha T. Krishnan from IIM,Banglaore, Mr. Pavan Ranga, an entrepreneur, as plenary session speakers which was hosted by Mr. Anil Gupta, Co-founder & Vice Chirman, CIPSA TEC INDIA Pvt., Ltd., Bangalore.  A panel discussion on the topic was conducted to highlight the theme of the conference.  The panelists consisted of Sanjay Krishnamurti, Ex- Chairman of both MNGL and CUGL, Mr. Ramesh Joshi  a Chartered Accountant and Mr. Lal H. Bhatia, co-promoter and Chairman on the board of Directors of Snap-Networks Pvt. Ltd, which was moderated by Mr. B S Murthy, CEO of Leadership Capital Consulting Pvt Ltd.

The Conference team was constantly guided by Dr. S Nagendra, Dean-MBA, Dr. A Satya Nandini, HOD-MBA and Dr. S. John Manohar, Prof-MBA




Date : 20th and 21st December 2012

The Department of Management Studies & Research Center, BMS College of Engineering is conducting an International Conference on “Challenges of Sustainability and Growth in Indian Industry” on 20th and 21st December 2012.  It is a platform for academicians, corporates and students to debate analyze and understand the concerns relating to the theme of the conference. We received more than 120 papers out of which only 75 papers are selected for presentation.  All the papers were subject to a double blind review process and 10 best papers were selected out of the same.  The papers were reviewed by a team lead by Dr. Anil Rao Paila, Director, Welingkar Institute, Bangalore.  The team consisted  of    Dr. Sonia Mehrotra, Assistant professor, Centre for excellence of Case Development, Prof. M H Shareiff, Assistant professor, Human resources, Prof. Vijay Kumar, Assistant Professor, Finance, all of them with the Welingkar Institute, Bangalore.

The Chief Guest for the inauguration was Mr. Saty Joshi, General Manager- Corporate Marketing & Strategic Planning, 3M India Ltd. The KEYNOTE SPEAKER was Mr. Shiva Shanmugam, President, FKCCI, Bangalore. The Conference Inauguration was presided by
