The Department of Telecommunication Engineering established in the year 1986 offers four year Under Graduate program in Telecommunication Engineering. The faculty of the department practice innovative methods in the Teaching-Learning-Process (T-L-P) that leads to effective implementation of Outcomes-Based-Education (OBE). This quality is reflected through the department getting Accredited by NBA for FIVE years in the Tier-I format (applicable for Batches graduating from 2014 to 2018).  The strength of the department is the Human Resource: Dedicated faculty, necessary technical staff and enthusiastic students. The curriculum takes the student through effective usage of Modern Engineering Tools like: Matlab, LabVIEW, Multisim, Xilinx, Mentor Graphics,  Code-Composer-Studio, Qualnet and HFSS simulation tools. Through the AICTE-MODROBS funding, FOUR laboratories in the department have been modernized: (i) Signal Analysis & Synthesis, (ii) Analog & Digital Electronics, (iii) Signal Processing & Embedded and (iv) Digital Communication. The interaction with National Instruments has resulted in the successful completion of the AICTE-IIPC Project. The department has strong interactions with relevant industries, and their contribution is reflected in through guidance in curriculum design, organization of industrial visits, conduction of expert lectures, organization of workshops, and joint research. 

The department is a recognized research center by VTU. All faculty actively pursue research in core-domain and in the domain of Engineering Education. Research carried out in the department has resulted in total of 264 publications(68 Peer-Reviewed Journal publications, 164 International Conference publications,32 National Conference publications). The Projects of our under graduate students has resulted in 102 publications.

The department prepares the graduating engineers so that they are able to pursue a successful professional career. The quality of the graduating students is reflected in good on-campus/off-campus recruitments. A significant number of our graduates pursue higher education in Engineering/ Management in prestigious Universities in India and outside India (Europe/ America/ Australia).

The department will achieve the Vision through: Framing suitable curriculum; followed by effective implementation of the framed curriculum; Execute industry relevant  projects; Pursue Research leading to International Journal/ Conference publications and Provide due emphasis on Professional Ethics and Social/Environmental Concerns.


The Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) describe the professional accomplishments of our graduates about four-five years after having completed the under-graduate program in Telecommunication Engineering. We describe the progress of our graduates through four PEOs. The first PEO reflects their professional career pursued through the knowledge acquired, the second PEO is focussed on their desire to upgrade their technical skills, the third PEO describes their communication skills and team skills, while the fourth PEO describes their attitude through their concern for environment and society. The PEOs of the undergraduate program in Telecommunication Engineering is as under:

Program Outcomes

The Program Outcomes (POs) are measured at the time of graduation and are addressed through the outcomes of the various courses of the curriculum.


Engineering Knowledge:

Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialisation to the solution of complex engineering problems.


Problem analysis:

Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.


Design/development of solutions:

Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.


Conduct investigations of complex problems:

Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.


Modern Tool Usage:

Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.


The Engineer and Society:

Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal, and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.


Environment and Sustainability:

Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of need for sustainable development.


Ethics :

Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.


Individual and Team Work :

Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.



Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.


Project Management and Finance:

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.


Life-long learning:

Recognise the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.


Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

The Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs), are defined by the stakeholders of the program, and describe the skills in addition to the POs (defined by NBA),  expected  by the Telecommunication Engineering student at the time of graduation. Similar to the POs, they are addressed through the outcomes of the courses, however, they are exclusive to the branch. The PSOs are developed through the teaching-learning process of various courses of the curriculum. The National Board of Accreditation (, recommends having 2-4 PSOs for a program. After series of discussions with the stakeholders of the program, the Department of Telecommunication Engineering has arrived at three PSOs. Through these PSOs, we attempt to develop the ability to: (i) Build Electronic Systems, (ii) Build Communication Systems and (iii) Simulate systems using Engineering Tools.


At the time of graduation, the Telecommunication Engineers will have the ability to


Implement,  analyze and demonstrate applications using electronic components 


Implement,  analyze and demonstrate basic concepts of communication systems


Develop, analyze and demonstrate algorithms to simulate concepts related to Electronic Systems/ Telecommunication Systems/ Multimedia streaming/ Networking Protocols using suitable Engineering Tools
